FSH #65 — Let Horseplay Commence

We aren't sick of horses yet

Friday @ Second Half #65

Happy Friday! And what a special Friday it is! I'm excited for a long weekend, but there's something everyone should be even more excited about...

Join Second Half Games on Discord

Last time, we had rocks and influential (rock?) band The Beatles. The less said about them, the better. I'm just making things up as I go along.

This week, however, it's time to open up for closed alpha testing!!!

Horseplay Abounds in Sector 80

That's right folks — if you've been in our Discord server, you've seen it. Everyone's talking about it. So many people (18!) have typed the word "Horseplay" or some variant thereof into our server, granting them access to our alpha playtest waitlist!

We'll be sending keys out later today, and we're all really excited to see what our players get up to! We mean it! Send us everything. Show us everything. Everything. This is what you agreed to, dammit. We want to know what you think and what you do.

If you're too late to sign up, don't worry! Join our server and keep up to date on when our next playtest is!

Playtesters will have access to two main story levels of MEANWHILE IN SECTOR 80 — Dowijuya on Florida IX and the Interchange Transit Yards on Reason.

Time hasn't been kind to Reason.

My notes here just say 'Florida IX smells like battery acid.'

In addition to that, we'll also be throwing in a couple extra levels!

Team Building

We also did a playtest today. Yeah that's right — an internal playtest before the playtest. We needed to make sure we didn't massively break the game before we let 18 people play it while we escape to a long weekend.

Yeah, just light that fire cracker and slam the door shut. See how that goes. Not us!

There's been a LOT of changes in these last two weeks, including a rework of our energy system and loot. The result has been much greater build variety. Here's a few of our builds from just an hour of playing today!

Laura's build!
Laura's build!

Laura went for a big backpack and shoulder-mounted sniper build, as well as a laser blaster on one arm and a laser emitter on the other. Plenty of offensive options, and all the engineering she needs in one place. Also, a sneak peek at some train station art.

Lilith's build!
Lilith's build!

Unlike Laura, Lilith went WAY more front heavy, giving herself a LASER FACE and a series of Doctor Octopus arms. Anything the face laser doesn't blast off in time she can handle with either her sniper or MASSIVE DRILL ARM.

Seriously. The drill is good. Even if its sound does remind me of being at the dentist.

Lucien's build!
Lucien's build!

Lucien's build is...wirey! Lucien has used cables to give his character the form factor he wanted, with plenty of space to mount spare batteries and capacitors. He's also integrated the George hub part into his system, which he casually stole off an office wall.

Lucien has stuck with the old faithful trifecta of blaster, emitter and sniper too. No melee for this man!

What will your build be?

Looking Ahead

We are SO stoked to see what everyone gets up to in the alpha playtesting! We're all meant to be enjoying a long weekend with the help of the UK's Late May Bank Holiday (33% of the company is British), but no doubt we'll all be keeping a close eye on our Discord server to see what mayhem people make.

We've already got so much internal feedback and so many ideas about where to take things, but we can't wait to see what other people might add! Go wild! Or else.
